Coloreel says its unit works with any industrial machine brand, single-head or multi-head up to eight heads. Tajima's TCMX pairs chenille heads with standard embroidery heads, and ZSK sequin devices take sequins from 2 to 19 mm.

Why does specialty embroidery need its own file?

A standard file tells the machine where to stitch and when to change color. Specialty work adds instructions that only the right equipment understands:

  • A Coloreel job needs a color file that places each color change along the thread, within the tolerance Coloreel Studio shows as CCP (Color Change Precision).
  • A chenille file marks which areas are moss and which are chain, and chenille machines read their own format.
  • A sequin file carries drop commands and device selection, and only some formats store them. Wilcom notes that a DST export turns sequin drops into jump codes.

These commands are also why specialty files are fragile in conversion: a converter that does not understand them drops or changes them. Which specialty embroidery technique should you choose?

Start from the effect you want, then check the equipment:

  • Blends, shading or many colors in one logo: Coloreel, if the shop sewing the job has a Coloreel unit.
  • A soft, raised texture for sports, school and letterman wear: chenille, sewn on a chenille machine, usually on felt.
  • Shine and sparkle on bold shapes: sequins, on a machine with a sequin device in the right size.

If the machine that will sew the job does not have the equipment, a technique for a standard machine can give a similar feel: 3D puff for a raised look, or appliquΓ© for bold letters and numbers.
