Print-ready artwork for screen printers

Screen Print Vector Art

A logo that looks fine on screen can still fail at the press: too many colors, lines too thin to hold, shades that no ink matches. We redraw your artwork by hand as spot-color vector built for screen printing, with the ink count, line weights, knockouts and trapping set before it reaches your screens. One flat price per design, with unlimited revisions.

Why print prep matters

Good vector art is not always printable

Clean vector art is the starting point, not the finish. A screen printer also needs the design reduced to a set number of inks, detail that the mesh can actually hold, and colors that touch without leaving a gap when the screens shift slightly.

That is the preparation we do on top of the redraw. You get artwork you can separate and burn straight away, instead of a file your printer has to fix before the job can start.

If you only need a scalable logo for general use, our standard vector art conversion is the simpler service. If your artwork is already clean vector and you need it split into films, see color separation.

Source quality matters less than you might expect. We rebuild the artwork rather than tracing pixels, so a small JPG, a scan or a photo of a printed shirt is usually enough to work from.

What we prepare
01
The right number of inks
Every near-identical shade merged into the spot colors you choose, so you burn only the screens the design needs.
02
Detail that holds
Hairlines and tight gaps opened up so they print, instead of filling in or breaking up on the shirt.
03
Colors that register
Trapping between touching colors and knockouts for the garment, so small shifts on press do not show.

Traced vs prepared for print

A quick trace vs print-ready vector

Auto-traced file
Dozens of sampled shades. More screens than the design needs.
Hairlines kept as drawn. They break up or disappear on the shirt.
Touching colors butted exactly. Any press shift leaves a gap.
Garment color printed as ink. A wasted screen.
Wobbly edges and stray points. Rough edges on the film.
Prepared for screen printing
Only the inks you print. Each spot color a single object.
Line weights that hold. Detail sized for the screen.
Trapping between colors. Clean even with slight misregistration.
Shirt color knocked out. One screen fewer where it works.
Clean, closed paths. Crisp films and predictable output.
What to send

What we need for print-ready artwork

  • The artwork: a JPG, PNG, PDF, scan or photo of a printed shirt
  • The garment color you print on
  • How many inks you want to use, or your maximum number of screens
  • Pantone references or brand colors, if the inks must match
  • The print size, so we can size line weights for it

FAQs

Screen print artwork questions

Vector art conversion gives you clean, scalable artwork for any use. Screen print vector art adds the press preparation: colors reduced to your inks, line weights sized to hold, and knockouts and trapping set.
Yes. Tell us how many inks you want to print and we merge the colors down to that number, keeping the design recognizable. If something has to change noticeably, we show you before we finish.
Trapping is a slight overlap where two colors touch, so a small shift between screens does not leave a gap of bare shirt. Most multi-color designs benefit from it.
Yes. Photograph it flat, square-on and in even light. We redraw from what is visible and ask about any detail or wording we cannot make out.
Yes, as a separate service. Once the artwork is ready, we can split it into films or positives: see color separation.
One flat price per design, with AI, EPS, PDF and SVG files and unlimited revisions. See the price table on this page or the full price list. Rush and super rush add 50%.
