Why these designs are hard

Faces, fur and fine lines need a plan

Mascots and animals are full of the details embroidery handles worst: eyes and teeth a few millimeters wide, thin outlines, fur texture and soft shading. Stitched at the wrong size or copied too literally, they merge into a blur.

The digitizer's job is to decide what to keep. At a left chest size, a mascot needs bold shapes and a strong outline. On a jacket back, the same character can carry shading, fur direction and more colors.

Size and detail

How much detail fits at your size?

At left chest size, around 3.5–4 inches wide, small features merge. Thin outlines, whiskers, small teeth and text inside the mascot usually need simplifying or enlarging. A simplified color-block style works best here.

On a full back or large bag, fuller detail has room to work. Stitch direction can suggest fur, and more colors can be used for shading. Designs used at both sizes often work best as two files: one simplified, one detailed.

Pet portraits

Pet portraits from your photo

The photo is a reference: we redraw your pet as an illustrated design built from thread colors and stitch directions.

  • Sharp focus on the eyes. The eyes carry the likeness, so a blurred face is the hardest thing to work from.
  • Even, natural light. Strong shadows and flash glare hide the markings that make your pet recognizable.
  • Eye level, face forward. A head-on or three-quarter view gives the clearest shapes.
  • Simple background. A plain background makes the outline of ears and fur easier to read.
  • Distinctive markings noted. Tell us about patches, collars or colors that must appear.

Team marks and licensed characters

Mascots and logos often belong to a school, league, brand or licensed character owner. Only send artwork you have permission to use. You are responsible for the rights to the marks you ask us to digitize, and for the products you make with them.

Common problems

Why mascot and pet files go wrong

Detailed characters expose a weak file faster than any other design.

What goes wrong
Blurred faces. Eyes and features stitched smaller than thread can hold.
Flat, lifeless fills. Every area stitched at the same angle, so fur and form disappear.
Too many colors. Photo shading copied color by color into a stiff, heavy patch.
One file for every size. A jacket back design shrunk to a left chest.
