Why large areas are different

Why big designs drift

Club gilets, printed-and-embroidered work coats and team softshells often carry a full back, and a design that size behaves nothing like a chest logo. Each block of stitching pulls the cloth under the areas still waiting to be sewn.

Stitch a 350mm crest in artwork order and the error adds up: outlines no longer sit on their fills, arched text flattens, and the final colour is visibly out of register.

Stitch counts climb fast on backs, so running order also decides what the job costs in machine time. Every file comes with a stitch count and run time, and the free stitch estimator gives you a pre-quote figure.

A back that starts crisp and finishes out of line was stitched in artwork order rather than sequenced for the fabric.

Embroidery or appliqué?

When a back should be appliqué

Once solid coverage passes roughly 200mm, appliqué usually runs faster and wears softer, because fabric replaces most of the fill stitches.

We flag designs that are heading that way. The appliqué route is covered on appliqué digitising, with a PDF cutting template for the fabric.

Common problems

Chest logo scaled up vs a real back file

Blowing up a small file to back size produces every fault on the left.

What goes wrong
Last colour out of line. Errors add up across the width.
Wavy fills. Underlay sized for a chest logo, not a back.
Arched text flattens. Pull distorts lettering as the back fills in.
Inflated stitch counts. Density scaled up along with the artwork.
Snapped threads. Long, heavy runs with nothing planned to relieve them.

Jacket back digitising questions

Up to 380mm wide, which covers full-back positions on adult jackets. Your hoop or frame is the practical limit, so tell us what your machine takes and we lay the file out for it.
Usually between 25,000 and 60,000 stitches, depending on how much of the design is solid fill. Each file comes with an estimated stitch count and run time.

Yes. Order the centre design and each line of text as separate designs, so every piece can be sized and hooped on its own.
It can, but softshells are bonded and every needle hole goes through the fabric, so we keep coverage as light as the design allows. Very solid designs are often better as appliqué.
Fabric pull adds up across a large design when it is stitched in artwork order. It is fixed in the file with zone sequencing and running compensation, not by changing tension.
